Building Funds
Building Renovation Fund
As University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman noted at the signing ceremony for Stanford Lipsey’s gift, "This generous investment in the future will inspire our students to do their own great work here, that will help them develop the media of the 21st century." In order to secure this legacy, the Board for Student Publications has ensured that the new Lipsey building will be equipped with the most up-to-date, task-appropriate tools for communications, photography, writing, layout, design and marketing. We are two-thirds of the way toward a million-dollar endowment fund that can be used to maintain the new building and its systems, and to provide for the needs that will arise as journalism and the technologies on which it depends continue to evolve.
Jim Neubacher Memorial Fund
The Jim Neubacher Fund aims to provide handicap access to the second floor of the Student Publications Building. Access will allow students and employees with mobility impairments to more easily work in the building and will allow the public to reach the second floor business office of The Michigan Daily. This fund was established in 1991 in memory of Jim Neubacher, a Daily reporter and columnist for the Detroit Free Press and an advocate for equal rights and opportunities for people with disabilities.
