  • Berenson snags 300th victory

Red Berenson's wait is over. "Our time will come" is the message inscribed on a memento that sits on the Michigan hockey coach's desk. After 12 years and an even 300 victories at the helm of the Wolverine ship, Berenson's time has, indeed, finally come.

Maybe now hockey will be big

Maybe now they will notice. Maybe now, Michigan hockey won't be a side show, a distraction from basketball and football. Maybe now, after a national championship, people will understand just how good the Wolverines are.

Michigan's defense falters at times, but it is still good enough for victory

After Michigan's 3-2 overtime victory over Colorado College in the NCAA final, coaches and players pointed to one thing as the most important aspect of the game -- defense.

    Gophers' Bonin takes home Hobey

It's what the Heisman Trophy is to college football and what the Wooden Award is to college basketball. It's the award for years of hard work and determination. It's the Hobey Baker Award, presented annually by the Decathlon Athletic Club of Bloomington, Minn. to the nation's most outstanding college hockey player. Friday, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Minnesota's Brian Bonin became the 16th recipient of the most prestigious individual hockey award.

    Morrison strikes for Michigan again

All season long, Brendan Morrison said he would take the national title over the Hobey Baker Award. Wish granted. But he never thought he would attain the same amount of individual glory that he did by scoring the game-winner in overtime, to give Michigan a 3-2 victory over Colorado College and the championship.

    3 Wolverines make all-tournament team

In case you watched the NCAA championship game from under a rock, Brendan Morrison was named the tournament's most outstanding player. Joining him on the all-tournament team were teammates Steven Halko and Marty Turco, as well as defenseman Scott Swanson and forward Peter Geronazzo of Colorado College and forward Martin St. Louis of Vermont.

Michigan ends frustration by beating overtime jinx

After the Michigan hockey team won the national championship Saturday over Colorado College, the song "We are the Champions" would have been a good addition to the on-ice celebration.

    Seniors' struggle finally over

Four seniors, four years, four overtimes. One huge win. The senior class of the Michigan hockey team -- Steven Halko, Kevin Hilton, John Arnold and Mark Sakala -- has seen it all in its careers as Wolverines.
