Forget the Alamo, Blue to face 'Bama at Outback
After the bowl situation was finally settled last night, the Wolverines didn't end up with a legendary bowl game.
But they did end up with a legendary opponent.
The Flip Sides of the Shorthanded Sensation - John Madden
John Madden is a workman-like, blue collar, independent, joke-telling hockey player, who keeps his personal life to himself. Now this may sound like an odd assortment of characteristics and a lot to swallow, but if any of these traits were not included, then people wouldn't get the full package that Madden holds.
Exorcised: Michigan comeback drowns Devils
DURHAM, N.C. - He didn't break the backboard this time, just Duke's pride.
This dunk was even better, even more monumental. And while it didn't destroy the basket, it was certainly earth-shattering.
Big Blue win all due to heart
DURHAM, N.C., - When Maurice Taylor fouled out with 10 minutes left in the game and the Wolverines trailing Duke by 12, just about everyone in the obnoxiously raucous Cameron Indoor Stadium thought the game was over.
The 9,314 in attendance were as acting as Crazy as their nickname indicated. After all, the Blue Devils were about to put away Michigan. The Wolverines looked rattled. Duke looked poised.
Wolverines sink competition in season's first invitational meet
Some people say that the Thanksgiving holiday is a time when physical conditioning is ruined by pounds of food and hours of inactivity.
The Michigan women's swimming team would disagree.
Underachievers? Not this group of Wolverines
Michigan 13, Ohio State 9. Two weeks later, the memory of this incredible upset - one of the greatest in Michigan history - still remains. And no one is likely to forget about it anytime soon.
Who could forget about it?
'M' tankers qualify for NCAAs in ve events at Miami Invitational
The NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship is still almost three months away. But this past weekend, at the Miami Invitational, that was all the Michigan women's swim team thought about.
The meet itself was a rout. Everybody knew it would be Michigan running away with the event. But while the Wolverines were happy to win the meet, that's not why they travelled to Oxford, Ohio. They went to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
Conlan gives largest lift of all: Junior guard boosts Michigan on both ends of the court
DURHAM, N.C. - When Michigan needed him most, Travis Conlan was there. Don't call him a hero. By his own admission, he wasn't one.
But if Conlan had fouled out, instead of the Wolverines' leading scorer, Maurice Taylor, Michigan would probably have lost.
Final 10 minutes a whole different game
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski wants to apologize.
He wants to apologize to his players for not coaching them to a victory yesterday: "We as coaches don't give them enough stuff that they can do, then we as a program are acceptant of the responsibility of that loss."
BYU conquers the WAC, Wyoming: Cougars heroics, 13 wins not good enough for Bowl Alliance bid, however
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Ethan Pochman's foot and Joe Tiller's decision helped BYU make its bid for a major bowl berth. But the sixth-ranked Cougars could only wait and see what came.
Pochman kicked a field goal to tie the WAC championship game as time expired in regulation and then a 32-yarder in overtime Saturday as BYU escaped with a 28-25 win over Wyoming to keep its hopes for a possible Fiesta or Sugar Bowl invitation alive.
Texas upsets Nebraska: Longhorns take risks, first Big 12 championship
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Texas' stunning 37-27 upset over Nebraska in the first Big 12 championship game was not coach Tom Osborne's first loss, nor the most painful, nor the most one-sided.
But it was the most ironic.
Alliance didn't work, but Santa's blameless
You have to hand it to those Bowl Alliance folks. Not only did their cute little system not work this season, but they were able to pass the blame on to Santa Claus.
According to the community access-like music video at the beginning of yesterday's BOWL ALLIANCE SELECTION SHOW, Santa was making the selections.
Gators bite 'Bama, win 4th straight title
The Gators awoke yesterday with a fourth straight Southeastern Conference championship, a rematch with the Seminoles in the Sugar Bowl and an unlikely opportunity to finally claim the national championship that has seemed their destiny ever since coach Steve Spurrier arrived in Gainesville.
"It's almost like it was meant to be," kicker Matt Teague said. "We're very fortunate to get the chance to play Florida State again."
Army sinks Navy in big battle
"I'm going out with my family and my friends and my teammates and I'm going to hit the town because I haven't done it yet after an Army-Navy game," the senior quarterback said. "Watch out Philadelphia."
In a party that probably spilled over from Saturday night into Sunday, the Cadets celebrated the latest of five straight victories over the Midshipmen, a 28-24 win that propelled No. 24 Army into the Independence Bowl with its first 10-win season.

First of all, there certainly is no mountain nearby.
Blue cagers unable to bring the hammer down on the Chippewas
MT. PLEASANT - Thus far this season, whenever the Michigan women's basketball team has had an opponent on the ropes, the Wolverines have immediately been able to deliver a knockout blow.
Yesterday, it looked as if the Wolverines might do the same to Central Michigan, opening up a 16-point lead in the second half. But Michigan couldn't put the Chippewas away, and the outcome was in doubt far longer than it should have been.
Johns centerpiece of strong Michigan start
MT. PLEASANT - Simply put, Michigan center Pollyanna Johns is dominating her opponents.
The 6-foot-3 junior has led the Wolverines to their strong 6-1 start, pacing Michigan in both scoring and rebounding.

When you bet on horses in Vegas, finishing fourth means that you just missed winning money. Well, over the weekend, the Michigan wrestling team finished fourth out of 45 teams in the Las Vegas Invitational, just missing its goal of a top-three finish.
"Overall, we had a pretty successful weekend," 150-pound wrestler Bill Lacure said. "I think that most of us really wanted to place in the top three. We're a little disappointed."
