Police officers carry away a protester outside The Detroit News building at
about 7 a.m. last Wednesday. About 600 protesters chanted, sang and spoke in
support of the workers who went on strike in July, and some 200 protesters
later marched several blocks to a union hall. Officers arrested 23 protesters,
including City Council President Maryann Mahaffey and Roman Catholic Bishop
Thomas Gumbleton, for disorderly conduct after they blocked driveways.
