Comedian Brian Haley brings his snazzy brand of comedy
to Mainstreet With his buzz-cut, one might think that Brian Haley is straight out of the armed forces. Interestingly, you wouldn't be wrong. A former sergeant with the military, Haley has kept the hairdo and traded in the fatigues for a suit, a tie and a comedy act. With his straight-laced looks, Haley appears to be the last person in the world who would tell jokes about a fat German business executive yelling, "Spank me, spank me!" in a Motel 6. But, if you have ever seen Haley perform, you would know that anything is possible. For this comedian, seen previously on "Wings," changing from a 90-foot-tall Sy Sperling to a 1960's science professor takes only seconds, and he brings his audience along for the entire ride. Aside from stand-up comedy and sit-coms, Haley is also successfully making the mighty leap into movies. Previously seen starring in John Hughes "Baby's Day Out," Haley is also known for his work in Warner Brothers "Little Giants." In addition, Haley has had the opportunity to work with directors ranging from Robert Altman and Steven Spielberg to Tim Burton. Truly, Brian Haley has had opportunities quite unlike most other stand-up comedians. In the future, Haley forsees himself continuing with both acting and live comedy, but this weekend might be your opportunity to see Haley in an intimate venue before he achieves Robin Williams-like status. Haley will be performing at Mainstreet Comedy Showcase tonight through Saturday. Showtimes are: Thursday at 8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $12. --Lise Harwin Letters to the editor should be sent to daily.letters@umich.edu Comments about this site should be addressed to online.daily@umich.edu |
