MusicCome back and play ... or else. That was the ultimatum Brett Gurewitz, head honcho of Epitaph Records and original Bad Religion guitarist gave the Offspring recently, when he filed a motion in Los Angeles County Superior Court to force the Cal-punkers to fulfill their contract with the label. Epitaph alleges the Offspring owe the record company one more album, which would be the follow-up to their multi-platinum selling breakthrough "Smash." Gurewitz and Co. filed the March 22 motion to restrict the Offspring from signing to another label, an idea the band was entertaining. How punk would it be for the Offspring to simply refuse to record any more albums? How lucky would the world be?Just when you thought the Cal-gangstas were tired of all the media hype, rap pioneer and co-Death Row Records founder Dr. Dre announced will be parting with his label, The Los Angeles Times reported. Ex-N.W.A. member Dre apparently clashed with the label's co-founder Suge Night, and decided to break off and begin a new rap label. Death Row, which is home to rappers Snoop Doggy Dogg, 2Pac, Tha Dogg Pound and other community pillars will continue on without Dre. It's great when you're granted a visa. Yeah! That's what members of the U.K.'s Black Grape are saying as they were recently granted visas to tour the United States. It seems our Grapey friends were blocked entrance to the United States because of visa complications arising from their past criminal offenses (many, many drug arrests) in their homeland. However, one member of the group -- the rapper known as Kermit -- won't be with the band for the four-week swing (he had many, many, many arrests). The rap-rock-soul-pop-techno-funk band is scheduled to roll into Detroit's St. Andrew's Hall on Monday, April 22. ` -- Compiled by Daily Music Editor Brian G |
