Blue spikers hope for successful November
The last time the Michigan women's volleyball team spent a weekend with Wisconsin and Minnesota, the Wolverines came away with the second-biggest upset in team history.
Nearly a month ago, Michigan swept then-No. 9 Wisconsin, only to lose the next day to a hard-hitting, unranked Minnesota team.
UCLA's Harrick dismissed
Steve Lavin, a 32-year-old assistant, will be the interim coach this year, and the school will look for a successor to Harrick during the season.
The dismissal came two weeks before the start of the season and one week before the fall signing period begins.

Cyganiak, Moon lead field at ITA tourney
As their final fall season as Michigan's top doubles team comes to a close, senior Sarah Cyganiak and junior Sora Moon are the 14th-ranked pair in the nation according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's first ranking of the year. Rankings are determined by players' records from the previous spring and summer seasons as well as their performances this fall.
Boston College suspends 13
NEWTON, Mass. (AP) - Boston College suspended 13 football players yesterday for gambling, including two who bet against their school last month in a game with Syracuse. Thomas Reilly, the Middlesex County district attorney, said the two players did not influence the outcome of the game, which the Orangemen won 45-17.
7 Virginia Tech gridders charged with assault
A Montgomery County grand jury indicted the players, along with a former player, for their involvement in the Aug. 31 campus attack. Hilliard Sumner III of New York told police his collarbone was broken in the fight, which began at 2 a.m. in front of Squires Student Center on the campus. Sumner said he was hit, kicked and beaten with a cane.
Crew places two of top three boats
The Michigan crew team turned in another solid performance Sunday at the Head of the Elk regatta in Elkhart, Ind. In the most prestigious open-eight race, the Wolverines took the second, third and seventh places out of a field of 15. Purdue's top boat finished in first place, completing the 2 1/2-mile course in 15:17. Following close behind were two of Michigan's boats, with times of 15:25 and 15:35.
