Icers roll lucky 7, sign fab recruits

Michigan hockey coach Red Berenson expected the multimillion-dollar improvements to Yost Ice Arena to provide a boost in recruiting. But so far, the Wolverines are doing just fine without the help of their new facilities.
Michigan announced yesterday the signings of seven players - four forwards and three defensemen - to letters of intent during the early signing period.

Morrison fights through physical play

It's Saturday night. Bowling Green is leading the Michigan hockey team, 2-1, late in the second period at BGSU Ice Arena. The Falcons gain control of the puck in their own zone. Within seconds, the Falcons advance the puck down the ice and score. The sellout crowd erupts. Their Falcons have taken a two-goal lead over the defending national champions.
Meanwhile, Michigan center Brendan Morrison is still all the way back in the Bowling Green zone, against the boards opposite the Michigan bench.

The Greek Speaks: Big players, plays will be vital in Columbus

Ohio State is ranked No. 2. Michigan is ranked No. 21. Ohio State is undefeated. Michigan has lost three games. Ohio State hosts Michigan this Saturday, and to Ohio State coach John Cooper, one thing is clear.
And that's not bad for a Buckeye.

It's official: Holtz leaves Fighting Irish

SOUTH BEND (AP) - Lou Holtz tried to treat yesterday like any other Tuesday. If he tried hard enough, maybe he could convince himself he wasn't really leaving Notre Dame.
But his cover was blown as soon as he arrived for his weekly news conference. A cameraman reached out to hug Holtz as he passed, and the coach paused for a moment to return the embrace. Then he walked onto the stage and confirmed what everyone already knew.

Michigan-Ohio State rivalry chock full of history, speeding tickets

Legendary Michigan football announcer Bob Ufer used to refer to it as the Snake Pit and talk about Woody Hayes' "scarlet and gray stormtroopers" pacing the sideline.
Others have more commonly called it the Horseshoe.

AIA coach compliments Taylor; Baston remains injured

Maurice Taylor's extended NBA audition continues.
And Phoenix Suns coach Danny Ainge might be drooling.
Taylor, who scored 29 points against a professional team from Australia - a team that could give the 0-9 Suns a run for their money - poured in 40 points in 36 minutes on 16-of-21 shooting against Athletes in Action on Monday.

In subpar season for Blue harriers, Barber misses NCAAs by a hair

When senior Jen Barber left the race course in Champaign on Saturday, her five-year career with the Michigan women's cross country team and one-year stint as its captain was over.
"I thought to myself, 'Well, there's always indoor (track) season,'" Barber said. "Then I realized that I'm not going to run indoor this year. It was kind of sad."
