Bullock betters backboard-buster
After Robert Traylor shattered the Crisler Arena backboard less than three minutes into last night's game against Ball State, most fans must have figured that the demolition would be the contest's most exciting moment.
And indeed, why shouldn't it have been? Things like that don't happen but once in a blue moon, and no backboard in Crisler Arena has ever been put to rest in such awesome fashion. But the Wolverines weren't able to gain much momentum from Traylor's Shaq impersonation, and they stumbled their way to a 25-22 lead over the Cardinals with just over a minute left to play in the first half.
Bullock, Blue make a smashing debut
It was probably a bad sign for Ball State that forward Bonzi Wells scored all of the Cardinals' points 12 minutes into yesterday's game against Michigan. It was probably a worse sign that Wells, the nation's third-leading scorer a year ago, had just eight points.
And this was against a Michigan defense that allowed 104 points to an amateur team a week ago.
Blue icers to Showcase talent this weekend
For the last two seasons, Minnesota has defeated the Michigan hockey team at the College Hockey Showcase.
That would matter if Michigan (11-1-1) hadn't defeated the Gophers (8-4-0) in last season's NCAA regional final.

On the wall of the Michigan wrestling team's practice room in Crisler Arena, there is a sign that says, "Fatigue Makes Cowards Of Us All. Fatigue Can Conquer You or You Can Conquer Fatigue."
Those will be words to live by as the the Wolverines head to Wisconsin for the all-day Northern Open on Friday.
Hoops, sun, leis at the Rainbow Classic
Basketball, sunshine, beaches and luaus - the basic ingredients to a typical Thanksgiving.
Yeah, right.
Hawaii will host this weekend's tournament and will be participating as well.
For their Thanksgiving, the Wolverines will head west to Honolulu to compete in the 18th Annual Rainbow Wahine Classic. The Wolverines will be part of a field including powerhouses Stanford and Stephen F. Austin.
Spikers finish up with Iowa, Illini
Sixth place doesn't sound too exciting. People don't often remember who winds up in sixth at season's end.
But for the Michigan women's volleyball team, sixth place doesn't look too bad.
