Politicians say foreign policy will not determine election
Decisions about Iraq, Bosnia and other troubled spots in the world may not affect the outcome of American elections next month - at least that's what Republicans and Democrats are saying. Officials from both parties said foreign policy, while important, is not paramount in the concerns of most Americans.

While the church choir practiced upstairs, Republican Mike Bishop and Democrats Olivia Maynard and Martin Taylor fielded questions from an audience of about 20.
Latino actor to speak on coming out
Students heading to Rackham Auditorium tonight will be able to hear from a fellow twenty-something for a change. Wilson Cruz, the openly gay Puerto Rican actor who played Rickie Vasquez on the short-lived but highly acclaimed ABC television series "My So-Called Life" is scheduled to speak tonight at 8 p.m. at Rackham Auditorium as part of National Coming Out Week and the University's month-long Latino Heritage Celebration.
UAC cuts mini-courses for term
Students will have to search out classes in bartending, massage and yoga this semester. These three classes, some of the most popular mini-courses offered by the University Activities Center, will not be offered this fall due to a change in personnel at UAC that forced the cancellation.

JERUSALEM (AP) - Muslim authorities are opening a new prayer hall under the Al Aqsa Mosque, setting off protests from Israelis about changes at the site Jews revere as the Temple Mount. Hassan Tahboub, the Palestinian minister of religious affairs, said yesterday the hall would open in two days once floor tile has been laid - in time for weekly prayer services tomorrow.

But five years after the U.S.-Iraqi war, the Pentagon is nowhere near ready to link low-level exposure to chemical weapons to a specific illness. Nor is the medical community ready with a cure or even treatment if ailments known collectively as Gulf War syndrome are found to result from chemical agents.
Clinton, Dole launch new ads attacking opponent
Both President Clinton and Bob Dole have unveiled new attack ads that attempt to depict the other man as untruthful by using the opponent's own words. Dole tees off on taxes, while Clinton focuses on Medicare and the Education Department, an increasingly popular issue being used by Democratic congressional candidates.
