OutKast packs potent punch

As a crowd formed in front of St. Andrew's Hall on Thursday, the unseasonably warm temperatures were indicative of the event everyone was waiting for. The Atlanta-based OutKast, bringing its Southern-flavored rap to Detroit, had apparently brought Southern weather, as well. And like the weather, the rappers came in quickly, livened up the Michigan masses, then left under everyone's noses.

Clinton dishes out funk with too much jam at Hill

Despite the fuss made over the Grateful Dead and Phish, P-Funk is the original jam band. But unlike their hippie counterparts, they're good at it. Friday's show at the temporarily smoky Hill Auditorium was a monument to free-form rhythm and blues and monstrous, acid guitar space jams.

Winds strike up storm at concert

You gotta love classical music. I mean, it's cultured, it sounds pretty, and in the case of the University School of Music Wind Ensemble, it's free! On Friday evening, 36 students and three conductors all forwent the Homecoming Pep Rally to bring an eager audience the delightful sounds of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and friends. Though the audience also missed the festivities of the Pep Rally, the concert was well worth the sacrifice for all in attendance.

Charming 'Big Night': A tender feast

"To eat good food is to be close to God," says Primo in the film "Big Night." Well, if you can't find good food, you might still be able to get close to God by watching one of the most tantalizing food movies ever made.
