Tragedies fill mixed Stratford program
Brief reviews of some of the tragedies now showing at the Stratford Festival in Ontario.
Fire*Eater to light Shelter ablaze
Jonathan Fire*Eater is a quintet consisting of a vocalist (Stewart Lupton), a bassist (Tom Frank), a guitarist (Paul Maroon), a drummer (Matt Barrick) and, interestingly, an organist (Walter Martin). With a sort of retro rock sound that well befits an organ (you can surely think of some examples from the late '60s or early '70s), they seem poised to break out into a world where the "Trainspotting" soundtrack has breathed new life into an old Iggy Pop song that is not beyond comparison in sound to this young group.
Winfrey, Beatles among richest entertainers
Oprah Winfrey has talked ... and talked ... and talked her way to great wealth.
In fact, she's talked so well during the past two years that she once again ranks atop Forbes magazine's list of the 40 best paid entertainers. Her combined 1995 and '96 earnings: $171 million.
Few laughs thrive in this 'Bogus' comedy

Why does this matter, you ask?
