'U': 'Date-rape' drug threatens students

In the wake of recent incidents at Pennsylvania State University, University of Michigan Department of Public Safety officials are recommending that students here exercise caution in social situations, due to the illegal drug Rohypnol. Penn State officials reported Tuesday that more than 10 students at the Happy Valley campus are suspected to be victims of the powerful "date-rape drug" that causes blackouts and amnesia in its victims.

Anatomy of the Code

Forty years ago, Ann Arbor was a pretty different place. Imagine a University where students are strictly forbidden to drive cars. Remember the wild fraternity party that lasted into the distant hours of the morning? Now picture what that party would be like with faculty chaperones, and without alcohol. Some opponents of the Code of Student Conduct say they believe the current Code is an infringement of personal rights - however the University's regulations of etiquette and behavior from the 1930s, '40s and '50s read more like a fundamentalist interpretation of "The Donna Reed Show" than a guide for University governance.

A new game: Hail Mary or not, this year's 'M'-Buffs game should be heavenly

All right. Enough about the 1994 Colorado game for a while. According to Colorado and Michigan, the Hail Mary is a has been - having been discussed to death and developed into an annoyance for both. Well, finally, it will be over. The banter and bitter bickering about the past will stop at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow, when the Wolverines and Buffaloes cut off the questions by strapping on their helmets. And when they do - Hail Mary or not - good God, it's going to be one interesting football game.
