Hail No!: Michigan bats down Buffs' 2nd miracle pass
BOULDER, Colo. - The Wolverines looked up at the scoreboard Saturday and saw 1994. Five seconds left. Michigan with the lead. Colorado with the ball.
And just like two years ago, when The Catch gave the Buffaloes a shocking 27-26 victory in Ann Arbor on a last-second play, Colorado lofted a pass toward the right side of the end zone. And again, the ball was tipped. And again, the home team's national title hopes ended with the game's final play. This time, The Catch was not to be.
Hail Mary II has different result
BOULDER, Colo. - For a minute, it seemed like 1994 all over again.
Kordell Stewart had snuck in at quarterback for Colorado. Michael Westbrook was in the slot at wide receiver. And Gary Moeller patrolled the sidelines.
'M' volleyball takes 2 of 3 in Spikeoff
The Michigan women's volleyball team took the good with the bad this weekend. Fortunately for the Wolverines, there was more good than bad.
The Wolverines won two of three games at the Spikeoff Spokane Tournament over the weekend. The tournament improved their record to 4-5.
Stickers on both sides of shutouts
When you give the opposing goaltender a day off, you know it's going to be a long day.
The Michigan field hockey team granted Jamie Hill, Old Dominion's goalie, that favor in the Lady Monarchs' 7-0 annihilation of the Wolverines on Saturday in Norfolk, Va.
What's your handicap? I'm looking for lessons
Someone once said that there is nothing tougher to do in all of sports than to hit a round ball with a round bat. That person, of course, was talking about baseball. That person, of course, must have never played golf. Because there is no sport tougher to be good at than golf.
Women linksters take 5th at own Invite
The Michigan women's golf team opened its 1996-97 season at the soggy, cold University of Michigan Golf Course with a fifth-place finish at this weekend's Wolverine Invitational.
"I was expecting a better finish, due to the fact that we were playing at home and our play in the qualifying round, but I'm not overly disappointed," Michigan coach Kathy Teichert said. "However, it did seem that we went through the motions on the back nine during the final round."
Linnea far from the 'Mendoza line,' ready to set new school assist record
Maybe it will be Shareen Luze. Or it could be Sarah Jackson. Karen Chase could be the one.
Sometime in the near future, one of the Wolverines will elevate into the air, slam the ball down for a kill and make Linnea Mendoza the career assist record holder at Michigan.
Michigan 20
BOULDER, Colo. - In a game where nearly everything seemed to go right for Michigan as a team, several players hit their highs in the Rocky Mountains.
On special teams, punter Paul Peristeris stood out. He punted for 43, 45, 46 and 53 yards, racking up a 47.5-yard average. Brian Griese, who handles pooch punting, also performed well, kicking his one punt 37 yards.

BOULDER, Colo. - Statistically, Colorado quarterback Koy Detmer outshone his Michigan counterpart Saturday.

Wolverines' pass rush harasses Detmer
BOULDER, Colo. - Running around Folsom Field's turf as much as Ralphie the Buffalo, Colorado quarterback Koy Detmer must have felt like a run-away steer.
Michigan's defensive line chased him all day, lassoed him, treated him like a piece of meat and sacked him once.
Nittany Lions cruise, 49-0

B.C. mauled at home by Virginia Tech, 45-7
BOSTON (AP) - Nineteenth-ranked Virginia Tech felt it knew exactly what type of defense it would see. How right it was.
The Hokies, facing former defensive coach Phil Elmassian, used a no-huddle offense to near perfection in the opening quarter, scoring on the first three possessions en route a 45-7 defeat of Boston College and a school-record 12th straight victory.
Buffaloes not the only team bitten by upsets
SEATTLE (AP) - The Washington Huskies may have a good defense after all.
Beaten up by Jake Plummer and Arizona State in a 45-42 loss in the opener, Washington defenders looked like an entirely different group against No. 14 BYU on Saturday.
Michigan women harriers capture Jayhawk Invitational
Cross-country meets are not much different from practice for the Wolverines' women's team, because in both situations, they are running against their teammates.
Led by freshman Elizabeth Kampfe's second-place finish, Michigan improved its record to 2-0 by winning the Jayhawk Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
'M' men's cross-country stays in pack to win
