The Michigan women's golf team travels to Madison this weekend to compete in the Lady Badger Invitational. After erratic play and a disappointing ninth-place finish in the Lady Northern Invitational in East Lansing last weekend, the Wolverines look to redeem themselves and better their scores.
Swan stays home, will not play in Baltimore
Amidst a busy fall season of team practice and individual tournaments, Michigan tennis coach Brian Eisner chose not to send junior Arvid Swan to Baltimore to compete in the National Clay Court Championship. The tournament, which begins today, is one of the season's four national tournaments and is the only one played on a clay surface.
Seminoles, Tar Heels face off
The No. 2 Seminoles (2-0) meet No. 11 North Carolina in a game showcasing teams ranked 1-2 nationally in total defense. North Carolina (3-0) also ranks first in scoring defense and turnover margin. "Right now our guys are playing with a lot of confidence, a solid, mature confidence," said Carl Torbish, defensive coordinator at North Carolina.

Maine hockey releases appeals on NCAA sanctions
ORONO, Maine (AP) - The University of Maine reiterated yesterday its claim of unfair treatment as it released a copy of its appeal of two of the sanctions imposed for violating NCAA rules. The 38-page appeal concludes that the NCAA's ban on postseason play for the hockey team and the loss of 13 football scholarships was inappropriate and excessive.
Georgia seeks second investigation extension
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Georgia has asked for a second extension of its deadline for responding to 10 NCAA allegations of wrongdoing in its football program. Georgia's response was originally due Aug. 16, but the school was granted an extension until today. Now Ed Tolley, the attorney hired by the school to formulate its response, has asked for another extension until December.
