Sixth inning fails Blue baseball as Eastern rolls, 14-7
YPSILANTI - It really was a good game.
Then the sixth inning started.
The Michigan baseball team (6-2 Big Ten, 16-10 overall) fell to the powerful bats of Eastern Michigan, 14-7, yesterday. The Eagles (3-0 MAC, 13-8) scored more runs in the sixth inning - eight - than the Wolverines scored in the entire game.
'M' softball tops Western twice: Hurlers grab doubleheader, 5-2, 4-0
KALAMAZOO - The Michigan softball team traveled to Kalamazoo expecting nothing less then two wins yesterday, and it didn't disappoint, sweeping a doubleheader at Western Michigan, 5-2 and 4-0. From the outset, the nightcap had all the makings of a classic pitchers' duel.
'M' football decides against 12th game
With less than two weeks to go until the annual spring game, Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr has at least one thing he can count on for the upcoming season.

Despite losses, Michigan baseball remains patient
YPSILANTI - After sweeping four games from defending Big Ten champion Penn State over the weekend, the Michigan baseball team appeared to be on a roll. But instead of riding that momentum into this week, the Wolverines have dropped two games to a pair of Mid-American Conference schools. Tuesday, they were shut out by Bowling Green, 5-0, and yesterday they fell to Eastern Michigan, 14-7.
Grifn hurls toward career year, ties RBI record with double
KALAMAZOO - Someone forgot to tell Sara Griffin that she has a whole year left to play softball at Michigan. At least, that's the way she plays.
The junior pitcher is having a career year. Her 15-1 record and ERA under 1.00 make her a candidate for Big Ten pitcher of the year.
Men's tennis needs consistency against Hawkeyes, Gophers
If the last two weekends are any indication, no one will know which Michigan tennis team (2-2 Big Ten, 4-9 overall) will come to play tomorrow at Iowa and Sunday at Minnesota.
Will it be the Michigan team that swept Ohio State and narrowly beat conference leader Indiana? Or will the Wolverines revert back to the team that lost eight straight matches? Michigan had lost five of the eight matches, 4-3.
Netters look to continue rivalry
The rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State is legendary. What most fans aren't aware of is that the Wolverines have beaten the Buckeyes in 22 of their 30 total meetings.
'M' crew in San Diego Classic for 1st time
The Michigan women's crew team will be traveling to San Diego for the San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday.
The Wolverines will be competing in Heat A of the Whittier Cup division - the premier event of the regatta.
O'Brien flies coop, replaces Ayers at helm of Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Jim O'Brien, who coached Boston College for 11 years, was hired yesterday to take over a struggling Ohio State team after two other candidates rejected the job.
O'Brien signed a five-year contract and succeeds Randy Ayers, who was fired March 10. He inherits a team that finished 10-17 the last two years and was ninth in the Big Ten this past season.
Rutgers steals Rider's coach
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - Kevin Bannon, who rebuilt Rider's basketball program and took the Broncs to two NCAA tournament appearances in eight years, was named Rutgers' coach last night.
The 39-year-old Bannon will be introduced during a news conference this morning, the university said in a release yesterday.
