Lists reveal booster may have helped recruiting

Examination of the Michigan basketball team's complimentary ticket lists show that Detroit booster Ed Martin may have acted as a recruiter for the team. In a March investigation of the basketball program, Michigan Coach Steve Fisher is quoted as saying he "never used (Martin) as a representative of our athletic interest in any way," and that his relationship with Martin was "casual, friendly but distant.

LSA exceeds donation goal

LSA fundraisers recently topped their five-year Campaign for Michigan goal of $110 million, Dean Edie Goldenberg announced at yesterday's LSA faculty meeting.

Study suggests LSA language changes

A study presented yesterday by LSA students and faculty aims to improve the appeal of the college's language requirement. The suggested improvements, which were brought about at the urging of the LSA Student Government and presented to LSA faculty, focused on ways to change students' attitudes toward the somewhat unpopular language requirement, particularly within the department of romance language and literature.

Yesterday, the hometown girl made good and Pollak's writing abilities and years spent chasing stories were recognized with a distinguished Pulitzer Prize in journalism.

Prof. talks about leaving president over welfare law

Public Policy Prof. Wendell Primus, who quit his job as deputy secretary of health and human services after President Clinton supported last year's welfare law, relived his days in the Clinton administration yesterday. Primus went to Washington, D.C. to draft welfare reform for Clinton, but when Clinton compromised and signed regulations that cut federal welfare funding by about $50 billion, Primus said his only option was to resign.

Bollinger to speak today

University President Lee Bollinger will deliver his first major public speech today since taking office in February. Bollinger will address the relationship between business concepts and the University in his speech, titled "The University: Some first principles and several recommendations.

Advice magazine provides course info. on Web

After its venture into online voting in last month's election, the Michigan Student Assembly has continued its expansion into cyberspace, now providing access to Advice magazine on the Web. Advice magazine, the MSA-produced guide that allows students to see how students rated courses and teachers, has been published for more than a decade. But this year, the paper format has been replaced by the new online system, which provides information for students currently registering for spring, summer or fall classes.

Three University students are preparing to take a ride on the wild side in the name of science. Engineering seniors Amber Thweat, D.J. Kroeger and John Korsakas comprise a University team selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to participate in a microgravity experiment aboard a KC-135A research aircraft.
