Blue advances to Super Six: Team title to be determined today
Success comes in stages - score after score, leap after leap, or in the case of the Michigan women's gymnastics team, day after day.
Last night, the Wolverines successfully completed stage one in their quest for a national championship, finishing second in the evening round of preliminary competition in Gainesville, Fla., though they narrowly advanced to today's finale.
Opportunity knocked. And Kelley Holmes and Tammy Mika answered.
At the start of the season, the two Michigan softball players were in similar positions. Holmes was the No. 2 pitcher in a three-player rotation, throwing behind and overshadowed by All-American Sara Griffin. Mika was battling for a starting spot after predominantly serving as a pinch-runner a year before.

They are like two corn stalks in the middle of an Iowa cornfield. And the husker cut one of them down last night.
That's what happened to the Michigan men's gymnasts who competed in the NCAA championships in Iowa City. With most of the gymnasts competing in Iowa with their teams, individual qualifier Jose "LaLo" Haro was put at a disadvantage, because he didn't have the team support he said he needed to place well.
After a loss to No. 11 Notre Dame in the great outdoors of South Bend on Tuesday, the Michigan men's tennis team will seek the shelter of the Tisch Tennis Center this weekend. Michigan (5-3 Big Ten, 7-11 overall) will host No. 22 Northwestern tomorrow and Wisconsin on Sunday.
Confident 'M' men are back
Losing teams love to play the spoiler. Teams that have struggled all season thrive on taking a late season slap at the contender. Penn State will look to play the role of spoiler when it takes on the Michigan women's tennis team tomorrow at the Tisch Tennis Center.

The Wolverines will compete in the 72nd annual Kansas Relays, one of the premier track meets in the country.
