When Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick of SportsCenter announced the winner for Play of the Year at the ESPYs last night, some Wolverines were not as thrilled as you might expect them to be for a winner from Michigan. That's because it was the wrong Wolverine as far as they were concerned.

Legg deserves to be remembered for bigger things

Mike Legg came out of the lockerroom as always, after everyone else, striding along slowly. He looked a bit like James Dean, his face boyish and smooth from his post-game shave, his hair wavy and stiff, the corner of his mouth turned up in a cool, cocky grin.

Byrdsong forced to y coop at Northwestern

EVANSTON (AP) - Ricky Byrdsong was fired yesterday as basketball coach of struggling Northwestern but will remain on the job through the end of the season - unless his players want him to leave sooner. "We are concerned with the lack of progress the men's basketball team has made during the past three years," Northwestern athletic director Rick Taylor said at a press conference, yesterday. "The university believes the program needs to be headed in a different direction and that it is appropriate to make a change at this juncture.
