'X-Files' marks the spot: Sci- thriller is the place to be on TV
By the time "The X-Files" effortlessly swept three major categories at the Golden Globes last month, the paranormal drama has officially transcended its dubious tag of "TV's hottest show" for a status of, quite simply, the best.
Over the course of its 3 1/2 years, the series has pulled off a rare stunt - having risen from a bottom-dwelling Nielsen oddity to a frequent Top 20 visitor without spilling a drop of artistic credibility. TV critics will perhaps spend more time than that trying to pinpoint the magic formula concocted by former surf-mag writer Chris Carter.
'U' Bands celebrate anniversary with concert
On February 22, 1897, the premiere performance of a University band was celebrated by a parade through the mud on State Street. When They Might Be Giants are headliners, you can always be sure that you'll get your money's worth and Wednesday night was no exception. Playing no less than 25 songs, the Giants kept up a high-speed pace throughout the evening, bringing new life to Ypsilanti.
A2 writers to read at Shaman Drum
The Ann Arbor literary community is often praised for its ability to attract top writers to read at local bookstores and at University events. Less often noted is the number of talented writers who emerge from the community itself, in particular from the University's creative writing MFA program.

Ice Cube has become one of the top African American actors since his breakthrough performance in "Boyz N The Hood." "Dangerous Ground" is his first attempt at making a name for himself in the action movie industry. Ice Cube has top billing in "Ground": He is an executive producer and he has a song on the soundtrack.
New SophShow kicks off
SophShow, as you know it, will never be the same. Starting with the kickoff of the State Street Poetry Project and the performance of Edward Albee's two-man play, "Zoo Story," the group is looking to provide a new forum for undergraduate creativity.
SophShow was formerly a theater group aimed at first- and second-year students interested in musicals.
