Lakers, Spartans play to a draw in back-to-back games

Lake Superior 4, Michigan State 4

Joe Blaznek had three goals as Lake Superior State tied Michigan State 4-4 in overtime Saturday.

In Friday's action, the teams also skated to a 4-4 overtime tie.

Saturday, Blaznek scored in each period, with Ted Laviolette adding another marker for the Lakers (15-8-3, 11-4-2 CCHA) in the second period.

The Spartans (13-6-2, 9-2-2 CCHA) got goals from Mike York, Bryan Adams, and Sean Berens, with Steve Ferranti scoring the tying marker in the third period.

W. Michigan 3, Alaska-Fairbanks 1

Justin Cardwell scored a goal and had one assist as Western Michigan beat Alaska Fairbanks 3-1 Saturday.

Cardwell gave the Broncos (9-10-2, 5-6-2 CCHA) a 1-0 lead when he scored early in the second period while both sides had four men on the ice.

North Dakota 6, St. Cloud State 1

St. Cloud State goalie Tim Lideen allowed three goals in the first 13 minutes and 20 seconds as North Dakota beat the Huskies 6-1 Saturday night to once again join them atop the WCHA standings.

Denver 5, Minnesota 2

Denver jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first period, peppering Gopher goalie Steve DeBus with three consecutive point-blank shots in the first minute alone, on the Pioneers' way to a 5-2 victory over Minnesota on Saturday.

The Gophers' (15-7, 12-6 WCHA) five-game winning streak came to an end, as Denver (12-7-3, 8-7-3) controlled the puck for a good part of the game.

Colorado College 4, Michigan Tech 2

Jason Gudmundson scored one goal and assisted on another as Colorado College topped Michigan Tech 4-2 Saturday.
