A better structure: City should improve parking situation

Ann Arbor's Downtown Development Authority has given the green light to a $22.3 million project to repair and replace seven of the city's parking structures over the next three years. The parking facility renewal comes in the wake of engineer reports that have found the structures "in relatively poor condition" from years of heavy road salt, continuous use and persistent damage. Reports claim the facilities may last only another couple years without major repairs, so DDA's latest undertaking should enhance Ann Arbor's downtown area by improving the city's already-hectic parking situation.

Tools for the future: Brater, Schroer propose positive legislation

The Michigan House of Representatives will kick off the next legislative session Jan. 28, with Gov. John Engler's State of the State address. Democrats regained control of the House in last fall's elections and plan to waste no time in proposing legislation. In fact, two local representatives - Mary Schroer (D-Ann Arbor) and Liz Brater (D-Ann Arbor) - are planning on proposing a wide array of legislation. It aims to improve both public education and the environment.

Whether you love her or hate her, you can't help feeling a little sorry for first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. It seems as if every time she is on the cusp of greatness, bad luck strikes and threatens to destroy her.
