Engler calls for reform, growth
LANSING - Gov. John Engler urged the state Legislature to work with him in bipartisan efforts to reform education, create new jobs, repair roads and protect the environment in his seventh annual State of the State address last night.

Neal's photo joins presidents' wall
When Homer Neal was a student at the University in the '60s, he said he never imagined his picture would one day hang in the Michigan Union.

DETROIT (AP) - Saying a new vitality and prosperity has entered daily life, Mayor Dennis Archer in his State of the City speech last night hailed a turnaround during his three years as mayor.
Archer said the city has seen the largest increase in housing values of any of the 10 largest cities in the country, the lowest murder rate in 21 years and unemployment cut from 16 percent to 9 percent.
