Inevitable increase: 'U' can afford small tuition increase

While many students enjoy their summer vacations at home, the University Board of Regents will make their and their parents' financial situations more strained. In July, the regents face the annual budget meeting and will decide on next year's tuition increase. The University is in good financial shape - a significant tuition increase is not necessary to augment its finances. The University's expensive tuition could prevent students from enrolling - a direct stab at the its academic community.

Opening the door: 'U' admissions must foster diversity

In only a few months, a new class of first-year students will begin their educational careers at the University and a new class of high school seniors will begin filling out admissions applications for next year. Just as in previous years, the University Office of Admissions will have to consider what type of class they are looking for to provide the best learning environment for students. It is in the University's best interest to have a diverse campus.

Invalid code: Conduct Code faces evaluation

As first-year students pack up their belongings and prepare themselves for life at the University, many will leave their parents for the first time - and enter into the University's parental guise. The Code of Student Conduct - full of misguided philosophies and blatant idiocy - is the University Board of Regents way of maintaining the University's "scholarly community." The Code threatens students' rights and detracts from their ability, as adults, to make their own decisions - it should be removed from administrative policy.
