Blue to weather Hurricanes after topsy-turvy week

The similarities are striking, certainly. The Michigan men's basketball team started the season on a roll, raising expectations and looking like a solid bet to make some noise in the NCAA tournament.

'M' baseball looking to continue win streak

The Michigan baseball team will be hard-pressed to repeat its performance from last week, during which the Wolverines won eight games in as many days when, but it travels to Tulsa this weekend, the only thing stopping them is that the Wolverines play only three games in three days.

'M' Women's track ready for ride

Sooner or later, every roller-coaster ride has to come to an end. In the case of the Michigan women's track team, the ride it took during its indoor season peaked too soon - just barely.

Blue cagers end successful season

After suffering through six straight losing seasons, the Michigan women's basketball team put a sunrise on the cover of this year's media guide, and called this season 'A New Beginning.' And the beginning of the season was nothing but sunshine for the Wolverines.

'M' softball relying on pitching

The No. 6 Michigan softball team (18-5-1) might want to consider taking up residence in Florida. After returning to Ann Arbor Sunday night from the Speedline Invitational in Tampa, the Wolverines are returning to the Sunshine State.

Spartans' Berens suspended after alcohol-related accident

A Michigan State hockey player has been suspended because of his involvement in an automobile accident last weekend. 'M' women bask in glow of title: Wolverines rest for NCAAs after stepping up to capture Big Ten

After completing another championship season in the Big Ten, much of the Michigan women's swimming team is finally getting the rest it has waited all season for. Those Wolverines, who did not qualify to swim an event in the NCAA Championships, which begins March 20, in Indianapolis, are finished for the season. Meanwhile, 10 swimmers are still training for the national meet, but even they are not exactly going full speed.

3 fired at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Texas Tech has replaced or reassigned at least three people, including two executives, involved in the academic certification of athletes, chancellor John Montford announced yesterday morning. Citing "university procedure," Montford would not reveal the names of employees involved. However, he also would not comment on the employment status of assistant athletic director Taylor McNeel and Michele Matticks, assistant director of academic services.

Forgotten 'M' divers seek respect

Half of the Michigan men's swimming and diving team is forgotten. Experts associate Michigan swimming with Olympians like John Piersma and Tom Malchow, not divers Brett Wilmot and Al Fleming. Yes, the divers are hardly even thought about when there are discussions surrounding the success of the team, but they should be included.

Shoulders separate 'M' wrestlers

And the hits just keep on coming. Literally. It's been a tough year in the injury department for the Michigan wrestling team. The trouble started in August and hasn't let up since.

Wolverines to try to balance Aggies

It is believed that religious prayer can help out with a team's performance. After competing at Brigham Young last weekend, and with a meet against Utah State this weekend, the Michigan women's gymnastics team may want to join the Mormon Church.

No rest and relaxation for Blue men's tennis

While the rest of campus was getting tan during spring break, the Michigan men's tennis team stayed down south too long and ended up getting burned. The Wolverines played three dual matches over the break and lost all of them.

Michigan golf mixed in Carolina

The Michigan men's and women's golf teams traveled to Fripp Island, S.C. last weekend for their spring break. Unlike the majority of the jet-setting student body, the golfers didn't bum at the beach; instead, they found other ways to celebrate their week off from classes.
