Michigan women's golf coach Kathy Teichert has reason to smile.
The Wolverines set a school record by finishing fourth at the Big Ten championship on Sunday at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing.
Michigan, which entered Sunday in third place, was narrowly nosed out by Penn State, 1,285-1,283, for the third spot in the final standings.
Senior Wendy Westfall and sophomore Sharon Park led Michigan as they each finished in a four-way tie for seventh place.
The two golfers both finished with scores of 317 for the four-round tournament, while tying each other for Michigan's low round by recording 74s earlier in the weekend.
Ohio State won the championship by 11 strokes over Indiana, 1,246-1,257.
Michigan, which has been competing in the Big Ten since 1983, shot a final round of 321.
