Fisher fouls out: Goss wants to 'change the program'
Months of controversy and speculation culminated in the firing of Steve Fisher as Michigan men's basketball coach, Athletic Director Tom Goss announced Saturday.
Goss said the decision was entirely his own and that Fisher was never offered the option to resign.
Successor expected within 10 days
University Athletic Director Tom Goss said yesterday that the national search for a new basketball head coach would be short, but not that short.
"It will probably take me about 10 days to decide," Goss said from his office yesterday evening where he was working on the search.
Students 'come out' at annual pride day

Seeking to memorialize the life of Tamara Williams while uniting members of the University community, the English department plans to assemble a book to honor the late LSA senior.
The book will be assembled not only to serve as a memorial, but also to provide a forum for writers to address the issues arising from the murder.
Reno: Clinton coffees OK
WASHINGTON (AP) - Attorney General Janet Reno said yesterday she has found nothing in videotapes of White House coffees to incriminate President Clinton or other officials covered by the post-Watergate independent counsel law.
But she promised to keep investigating and said she ignores "name calling" by Republican critics who have demanded she resign.
'U' deans make faculty recruitment a priority: Deans emphasize role that faculty members play in attracting students to 'U'
Echoing University President Lee Bollinger's commitment to maintaining a strong faculty, the University's deans are making faculty recruitment a high priority.
Bollinger, who said in his inaugural speech Sept. 19 that the personal empowerment of faculty is "more likely to make an institution succeed over the long term," is emphasizing an issue of great importance, the deans said.
Ann Arbor officials debate more funding for homeless services
Efforts to cut federal spending are hitting close to home for many Ann Arbor officials. With the trend of lower government spending, many officials are faced with the possibility of having to provide more services.
This issue came to the forefront last week when the Ann Arbor City Council was solicited by Michigan Ability Partners to help pay for the administration of a federal grant.
'U' may obtain electric-powered pickup trucks
Electric vehicles may soon be a part of everyday life at the University.
The Department of Transportation is in the process of bidding for five electric-powered pickup trucks to add to the University fleet. The most likely candidate seems to be Ford Motor Co.'s Ranger Electric Vehicle.
