Goss gets the search underway

All eyes are on Ben Braun as the search for a new Michigan men's basketball coach kicks into high gear. Since the dismissal of coach Steve Fisher on Saturday, rumors have run rampant concerning who might take over the program. The man conducting the search - Athletic Director Tom Goss - last night confirmed and discredited some of the rumors surrounding the search.

New coach will have it tough - he's not Dutch

The wall moved aside in Steve Fisher's press conference yesterday as the wall went up between the Michigan basketball team and Athletic Director Tom Goss. Like a scene from a movie, the entire team appeared standing side by side with serious looks on their faces as the hotel employees opened the partition on the left side of the Sheraton Hotel's Grand Ballroom.

'Close-knit' defense relies on new face weekly

If the Michigan defense is the close-knit family that nose tackle Rob Renes suggests it is, then is it any wonder that the Wolverines have banded together to become a far better unit than anyone imagined? The nation's second-ranked defense, holding opponents to just 211.8 yards per game, was labeled at the beginning of the season as, more or less, a bunch of no-names led by All-American Charles Woodson.

'M' icers grew up against Gophers

The Wolverines had heard it all before. From the media, from the fans and probably from within themselves. The questions. The uncertainty. The anticipation. The fear.

Tough opponents ahead for stickers

Before the weekend of Oct. 4, the Michigan field hockey team was sitting pretty. The Wolverines were 9-2, undefeated in conference play and in first place in the Big Ten. One week later, a lot has changed.
