Rushing back: Sig Eps return too soon after incident

Only three years ago, tragedy struck the University campus. A Sigma Phi Epsilon pledge, in an alleged hazing incident, drank himself to the verge of death. Recently, on Louisiana State and MIT's campuses, pledges were not so lucky - two students died after binge-drinking episodes, and the shock waves reverberated nationwide. Just last week, Sig Eps announced plans to come back to campus as a transformed, alcohol-free house.

Overload: CPS needs additional support to help children

Last Friday, Michigan Auditor General Thomas H. McTavish released a report concluding, among other concerns, that nearly one in four of all children in dangerous family situations are not removed from those situations. Other major problems were that investigations did not always begin within 24 hours of the initial complaint, and investigators failed to conduct thorough investigations in nearly 20 percent of cases.

School spirit arises in both strange and familiar lands

As Thomas Jefferson is quoted (it appears on many a U.S. passport) there is nothing so inspiring as seeing an American flag on the embassy in a foreign country. Alluding to the pride and esteem that seeing such a patriotic symbol evokes, Jefferson had a wonderful point: sometimes it takes distance to appreciate what you have right at home.
