Hello, Mary Lou: The Ark to praise Lord tonight

A few years ago I heard a song on the radio that grabbed my attention. It was one of those times when, whatever you're doing, the song grabs you. It grabs you because it's different from everything else that drifts past your jaded ear; it grabs you because it's got that certain special spark of greatness.

As the old saying goes, "you can't judge a book by its cover." But apparently, the colorfully eye-catching and intriguing cover on "The Art of Breaking Glass" by Matthew Hall is a very good representative of the incredibly riveting and entertaining story inside.

'Career' pushes all the right buttons: 'Secrets and Lies' director offers comedy, drama, warm-hearted film

Nothing's more satisfying than knowing a movie can push all the right buttons in just 1 1/2 hours. "Career Girls," directed by Mike Leigh, who also directed the recent Academy Award nominee "Secrets and Lies," is a light comedy, a disturbing drama and a heart-warming, friendship/bonding movie.

Mog uncovers '70s glam, indie smack

When you think of Detroit-area music, what do you think of? If it's Sponge, it's time for you to listen to Mog Stunt Team and get those silly notions out of your head. The Stunt Team is a pseudo-fighting force whose concrete goals are not entirely clear, but whose method relies on a strong foundation of rock music in the best possible sense. The group's sound is like a mix between '70s glam a la Kiss and indie smack along the lines of the Cherubs.
