DETROIT - There was one underlying theme during yesterday's CCHA media conference at Joe Louis Arena - youth will be served in 1997-98.

Look out, Big Ten just might be good
Don't everybody look at once, because the rest of the country might catch us, but the Big Ten looks like it just might be returning to prominence as the nation's most dominant football conference.
It's early in the season, and polls don't mean a whole heck of a lot right now, but it is undeniable that the Big Ten has found the Lions' share of early season success.
United they stand, divided they faltered. This one statement describes the results of Michigan men's tennis players Brook Blain and Arvid Swan at the T. Rowe Price National Indoor Clay Courts tournament underway in Baltimore.
This past weekend was the qualifying singles for this week's tournament. As Swan expected, the tournament has been challenging.
'M' tennis's best struggle on clay
Sometimes, waiting patiently for something makes it that much sweeter. For many years, the Michigan women's tennis program has had fair, respectable, .500 seasons. Then last year, out of nowhere - bang.
Big Ten champions. NCAA regional champions. A perfect 10-0 conference record. An NCAA tournament appearance. And all for the first time in school history. Senior Sarah Cyganiak is Big Ten Player of the Year, and Bitsy Ritt is Coach of the Year.
