For a band that's never out of the news too long, Oasis recently had a bit of a scare at the final concert of its "Be Here Now" tour in Mexico City this past Monday. Guitarist Noel Gallagher's amp caught fire during "Supersonic," causing a second amp to be sparked off the first, shooting flames three feet in the air. Oasis finally stopped the show for 15 minutes while its crew located the problem, firing up the elder Gallagher's backup system so the band could finish the set. Following the tour's end, Gallagher has since gone back into a studio to work on new m

Meanwhile, as a result of a cover art contest held by React Magazine and Epic Records, an abstract portrait of little brother Liam turns up on a special limited-edition CD single for "All Around the World," designed by 17-year-old winner Lisa Gadaleta. The CD single with Gadaleta's art will be released by Epic via a 1-800 number in April, and part of the proceeds from the disc's sales will be donated to VH1's "Save the Music" program, which aids music education in public schools.
The Charlatans UK, one of the original "Madchester" dance-rock bands of the late '80s, will suffer the "greatest hits" treatment on June 9, when its label Beggars Banquet releases the 17-track "Melting Pot" collection in the United States. Among the stellar tracks compiled therein are: "The Only One I Know," "Then," "Opportunity Three," "Weirdo," "Theme From the Wish," "Sproston Green" (alternative mix), "Can't Get Out of Bed," "I Never Want An Easy Life If He and Me Were Ever To Get There," "Over Rising," "One to Another," "North Country Boy," "Crashin' In," "Just Lookin'" and a rare Chemical Brothers remix of the song "Patrol." The album has already entered the UK top 40 and is sure to become a must-have for fans everywhere.
Although the rumors about a visit from Pearl Jam have been officially denied, Pulp and Primal Scream have finally been confirmed as the headliners for this summer's Glastonbury Festival, which runs from June 26-28. James is scheduled to appear onstage just prior to the Primals, while The Lightning Seeds are also confirmed for Friday. Macaulay Culkin, the erstwhile star of the first two "Home Alone" movies, is getting married. What's that? Of course, I'll wait while you read that first sentence again. Yes, the 17-year-old, I repeat, 17-year-old is hearing wedding bells. Nuptials are in the works for the child, er, man and his fiancée, Broadway actress Rachel Miner. "We're so happy and proud that we found each other at such a young age," Culkin said. Reports say that Culkin and Miner met at Chuck E. Cheese. Their first date was a trip to the sandbox, and Culkin proposed on the big spinny slide at the park.
If it ain't broke, Gus, darn it, don't try to fix it. Ranking right up there with "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "Casablanca" and "Citizen Kane" in the movies-that-don't-remotely-need-to-be-remade file is horror classic "Psycho," the apex of the Hitchcock repertory. Yet director Gus Van Sant, riding "Good Will Hunting"'s wave of popularity, is going to do the unthinkable and take us all back to the Bates Motel. And no, this is not just another sequel. Trying to improve on perfection almost inevitably leads to failure, but "Hunting"'s director is going to make an attempt at the replication of "Psycho." He is going to update the old cast with a hip '90s ensemble, but the script and even the camera work are going to stay exactly the same. Hitchcock was pretty darn good at what he did, though, so expect little improvement.
Fox's alien-ridden paranormal hit, "The X-Files," is finally making its long-anticipated move to Los Angeles. The show, which currently shoots in Vancouver, will start shooting for the next season in California. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson both have purchased homes in the Los Angeles area. Duchovny was the main proponent of the move, wishing to search for the truth nearer to his wife, Téa Leoni, star of the floundering NBC sitcom "The Naked Truth."
