"What do we want? Safe streets! When do we want it? Now!" More than 400 women marched through the streets of Ann Arbor at the 19th annual Take Back the Night march and rally held Saturday night shouting, chanting and carrying signs declaring, "Our bodies, our lives, our right to decide."

"We wanted to do something special to make sure his name is remembered," said Dwayne Fuqua, Student Athlete Advisory Committee president, who organized the event.

Chinese dissident released, flies to Detroit

DETROIT (AP) - Wang Dan, a leader of the 1989 Tiananmen Square pro-democracy protests in Beijing, arrived in the United States yesterday after being freed from a Chinese jail. Wang's flight from Beijing arrived at Detroit Metropolitan Airport shortly before 10 a.m. EDT, He was immediately taken to Henry Ford Hospital where doctors said he was in stable condition.

Kinesiology charity run raised $500

Not even the lore of sleeping in on a Sunday morning could stop more than 150 students and Michigan residents from participating in the 5th annual Run Around the Diag for charity yesterday. The run, which consisted of a 5K, 10K, 2-mile walk and a relay of 4 by 1 miles, helped raise more than $500 for the Division of Kinesiology Emergency Scholarship Fund and the Peace Neighborhood Center.

Plane crashes in Detroit following chase with officials

DETROIT (AP) - A small plane carrying more than 300 pounds of marijuana crashed in Detroit yesterday evening, killing the pilot but injuring no one on the ground. Detroit Fire Chief Lee Moore said three U.S. Customs planes had been chasing the plane since El Paso, Texas. Moore said he believed the pilot ran low on fuel before crashing into an empty baseball field at around 6:10 p.m.

Workers alerted to hearing loss

A University researcher wants construction workers to hear her warning before it's too late: without proper precautions, the tools of their trade can damage their hearing. Noise is the most common hazard facing American workers, and continuous exposure to the noise from power tools and other equipment puts construction workers at particular risk of hearing loss, according to Sally Lusk, a Nursing professor.
