After reaching a decision during this past summer, the English Composition Board has publicly announced its decision to stop requiring incoming LSA students to submit writing portfolios. Instead, each first-year student will make a self-assessment of their writing ability to determine their English classes. This decision will affect incoming transfer students next semester as well as all future incoming students. The portfolios provided for a sound, objective evaluation of a student's writing ability, and the portfolios' discontinuation leaves a less effective system in place.
