Blue de-claws pesky Wildcats

With a lot of defense and a lot of help from unlikely sources, Michigan did a little growing up last night. The Wolverines, who got a strong all-around showing from Jerod Ward and a pair of timely 3-pointers from Robbie Reid, shook off a "nonchalant" performance and a pesky Northwestern team last night to win, 74-67, in front of 12,173 fans at Crisler Arena.

'M' better late than never ... for now

It's one thing when Michigan fans don't show up to Crisler Arena. It's another thing when the Wolverines themselves don't come. Not to say that the Wolverines didn't show up at all at last night's game against Northwestern. They were just ... embarrassingly, unfashionably late.

Familiar venue for hockey tomorrow

Over the past two seasons, Joe Louis Arena has been home-away-from-home for the Michigan hockey team. The Wolverines (16-4-1 CCHA, 22-6-1 overall) have played 11 times at Joe Louis, losing only once. Despite their familiarity with the Joe, playing at the home of the Detroit Red Wings is still special for some of the Wolverines.

Eschemeyer stopped; Wink paces 'Cats

All week long, the talk heading into yesterday's game against Northwestern was that Michigan needed to contain Wildcats center Evan Eschmeyer, the Big Ten's leading scorer and rebounder. At 21.9 points and 11.4 rebounds per game, the 6-foot-11 center has torn up the Big Ten.

Tar Heels top Devils in blowout

CHAPEL HILL, (AP) - Antawn Jamison got North Carolina the lead and Ed Cota made sure it didn't get away. Jamison scored 23 of his 35 points in the first half as the second-ranked Tar Heels took a 16-point halftime lead, and Cota came up big down the stretch when No. 1 Duke closed within four points.

Purdue is boiling over with payback for Blue in mind

Four times this season, the Purdue women's basketball team has welcomed a Big Ten foe to Mackey Arena. Each time, the Boilermakers have sent their opponent packing with a loss. Michigan (6-5 Big Ten, 14-6 overall) hopes to break that trend Saturday, but don't count on Purdue to be a gracious host - considering what happened the last time the two teams met.
