'Blues Brothers' maintain respect in second outing

The first time, they were on a mission from God. They would allow nothing to get in their way. Not a handful of cops or an RV filled with the good ol' boys. This time, Dan Aykroyd (Elwood Blues) is left alone to fulfill a new mission. Believe it or not, he succeeds.

'Tango' teaches love lesson

Of all genres of ballroom dancing, the tango is perhaps the most visually evocative and alluring. That is, of course, if the dancers can produce that effect. In her latest film, "The Tango Lesson," Sally Potter assumes the roles of director, writer and lead actress. She plays Sally, an aging woman who fulfills her childhood dream of becoming a tango dancer; she does this under the tutelage of supreme tango dancer Pablo (Pablo Veron).

Acting makes 'Sight' worth seeing

How many people's lives can hinge on one piece of art? In Donald Margulies' two-act play, "Sight Unseen," the entanglements of three people's lives are explained through their perception of art. Directed by student playwright Kristopher Chung and starring Alex Alioto, Krista Braun, Ernie Nolan and Allyson Bakaitis, this Basement Arts performance was insightful and thought-provoking.

Forgettable 'Killers' could be replaced

A killer with a conscience. It's not exactly the most original idea to come out of Hollywood in the last few years, but the makers of "The Replacement Killers" had a twist for the common story, Chow Yun-Fat, someone most American moviegoers have never heard of before.

'Beyond' proves believable

Fact or fiction: Dick Clark is the executive producer of an entertaining show, hosted by Starship Enterprise Commander Riker (Jonathon Frakes). Oddly enough, that statement is actually true. Years ago, "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" came across the airwaves, unnerving us with eerie historical facts and events. Today, Clark's "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction" continues - with an added twist - where Ripley's left off. Now in its second season, the show presents several unusual or unexplainable stories about events in people's lives.
