Growing up seemed simpler for nostalgic 'U' students
People raised in that mythical decade known as the '80s witnessed the high-top sneaker craze. They roller-skated to the sound of Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to Do With It" in dimly lit arenas under the sparkle of a disco ball. They rode bicycles, but wore no helmets.

If there was ever a time where Sit 'n' Spins, the A-Team and Boy George inspired a generation of people to enjoy life, it was the '80s. And while today's University students look towards the future daily, they regularly revel in nostalgia.
What's up with the '80s, lately? Within the last couple of years, the country has developed a fetish for the preceding decade. A number of recent films have dealt with the '80s, most notably "The Wedding Singer." But what's the fascination? Granted, we got Transformers, Scooby Doo, the Bangles and the Atari 2600 out of the deal, but why would one want to revisit the decade that gave us Reaganomics, neon T-shirts, the flytrap haircut and Jon Bon Jovi?

'U' campus evolves over past decades
If today's students could go back in time to the University 10 or 20 years ago, they might be surprised at what they'd find.
Fifteen-year Ann Arbor resident Brian Benjamin can attest to how the University and Ann Arbor have changed over the years. The city "has changed for the better. It has so much to offer: sporting events, theaters, culture and a whole lot of stuff," Benjamin said.
'80s events live in memory
It was known as the "Me-First Decade," "Decade of Greed," "the Yuppie Decade" and even "the Reagan Decade," but most people simply refer to this time as the '80s.
It was a time when jams, side pony tails, jellies, leg warmers and plastic charm bracelets were cool. We always sang along to Conjunction Junction from the well known "Schoolhouse Rock," and as Alexa Gunther, an LSA first-year student, said, "'Jem and the Holograms' were truly outrageous!"
My electric youth
They remember where they were when Kennedy was shot. I remember where I was when J.R. was shot.
Not-so-fast times
I've seen them all.
"Taxi Driver," "Star Wars," "Gandhi," "Casablanca," "The Godfather," "The Graduate." The list goes on and on: All the classics, all the tearjerkers, all the action-adventures, all the comedies. I've seen tons of Academy Award-winning films, and loads of movies exciting enough to get Siskel and Ebert to stick their thumbs in the air.

Fashion reels from '80s faux pas
When we think of the '70s, strobe lights, disco balls and John Travolta in a white suit probably come to mind. Having been toddlers (if that) in the '70s, many of us tend to dismiss the entire decade as one giant eyesore belonging to our parents' generation.
