Spartans blank Ferris State; Miami edges Lakers

BIG RAPIDS (AP) - Chad Alban turned away 14 shots for Michigan State to shut out Ferris State, 7-0, on Saturday.

Mike York had a hat trick for the Spartans (12-3-2 CCHA, 20-3-3 overall). Michigan State scored seven goals on 25 shots on goal and converted on two-of-five power plays.

Rustyn Dolyny opened scoring on a power-play goal at 4:19 in the first with help from Jeff Kozakowski and Sean Berens. Dolyny scored again on a power-play goal at 2:56 in the second, with York adding one of his goals on an assist from Kevin O'Keefe at 9:55.

York had two more goals in the third, and Shawn Horcoff and O'Keefe also scored.

Vince Owen had 18 saves for the Bulldogs (7-8-3, 8-12-3).

Miami (Ohio) 4, Lake Superior 3

Adam Copeland's goal at 1:17 in the third period broke a 2-2 tie and gave Miami (Ohio) the lead for good as the Red Hawks defeated Lake Superior, 4-3, on Saturday night.

C.J. Buzzell and Jeremy Bautch both scored for Miami (Ohio) in the first period. Joe Bodnar added an empty-net goal with 57 seconds remaining in the game for the Red Hawks (10-5-2, 15-5-2).

The Lakers cut the lead to 4-3 when Terry Marchant scored on a penalty shot after Ryan Brindley was called for delay of game. It was the second game for Marchant, who also had a short-handed goal in the second.

Jason Sessa added a goal in the second period for the Lakers (8-7-4, 11-9-4).

Ohio State 4, Bowling Green 2

Chris Richards, Todd Compeau and Dan Cousineau scored third-period goals as Ohio State beat Bowling Green, 4-2, Sunday.

The Falcons (2-12-2, 4-18-2) took a 2-1 lead midway through the second period on a power-play goal by Chris Bonvie.

But Richards tied the score 3:46 into the third period and Compeau scored the go-ahead goal 1:40 later. Cousineau added an insurance goal at 10:42.

Eric Meloche also scored for the Buckeyes (9-9-0, 12-10-1). Brad Holzinger scored for Bowling Green.
