Drew Blue, Quarterback will try two-sport career

Drew Henson's mother said blue must be her son's color. The incoming Michigan freshman will wear two hats, or caps, this year, having signed a four-year contract with the New York Yankees early Friday. Henson will be fighting for the starting quarterback spot with the Wolverines in the fall as well.

Woodson inks deal with Raiders

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) - The Oakland Raiders signed Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson on July 20, their top pick in this year's draft, just a day before opening training camp. ''I told my agent when we first talked that I didn't want to be a holdout,'' said Woodson, a cornerback out of Michigan and the fourth overall pick in the draft.

Van Ryn, Canadians find gold in California

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Something might seem out of place for a Michigan hockey player finding himself skating around without rowdy fans clad in maize and blue insulting the opposing team's goalie. It may seem even more out of place if the old maize and blue are replaced with red and white, and the insults are replaced with "O Canada." And if there isn't even ice, then maybe this isn't even hockey at all.

'M' trio practices Goodwill

From staff reports With the graduation of Kevin Sullivan, the title of Michigan's top distance runner is now solely John Mortimer's. And Michigan's best was good enough for seventh-best at the Goodwill Games, as Mortimer finished seventh in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase last Monday with a time of 8:36.
