Dancing again: Wolverines win Big Ten Tournament

CHICAGO - Yesterday, for the third time in the past 12 months, Robert Traylor sat at a press conference with a net around his neck and a smile on his face - and any Michigan fan could tell who the victors were. Michigan, behind 24 points and 13 rebounds from its all-Big Ten center, had just captured the first Big Ten Tournament championship in the league's history. The Wolverines defeated Purdue in the championship game, 76-67, at the United Center.

Upon U.S. Sen. Carl Levin's recommendation, Provost Nancy Cantor was appointed Feb. 27 to a national commission that will focus on gender-integrated military training and the relationships between men and women serving the country. "I'm very, very interested and pleased to serve on it," Cantor said.

'U' quiz bowl team victorious at regionals, advances to nationals

A team of five University students out of the 20 members of the Michigan Academic Competition Program brought back the championship award after competing in the Region Seven College Bowl Incorporated Tournament last month. Eighteen colleges and universities from Michigan and Ohio participated in the tournament.

Political talk features Stephanopoulos

Wearing an "I love Ypsilanti" button and cracking jokes, George Stephanopoulos, former senior adviser to President Clinton, spoke to the newly formed Washtenaw County Economic Club on Feb. 28 at Eastern Michigan University. In front of a nearly full auditorium, Stephanopoulos reminisced fondly about Ypsilanti, a city he visited during the last presidential debate. Stephanopoulos spoke candidly about politics and the president. He also talked about his new positions as a visiting professor at Columbia University and an ABC news political analyst.

The session could get a missing spark this week as assisted suicide finally comes to full House debate. And a Democratic plan to refund $1 billion of a catastrophic insurance claims fund surplus gets its first hearing in committee.
