'M' falls to UCLA, ends season: Michigan loses 85-82 to UCLA to end their run in the NCAA Tournament

ATLANTA - A season that began tumultuously with the painful firing of coach Steve Fisher ended yesterday for the Michigan basketball team with consoling handshakes from University President Lee Bollinger and Athletic Director Tom Goss in a solemn lockerroom in the Georgia Dome.

What could have been? The bottom line is painful

ATLANTA - "We don't believe in moral victories at Michigan" - that's what Michigan basketball coach Brian Ellerbe likes to say when his team loses.

Well, he's absolutely correct. In the end, wins and losses are what count.

Lounge honors student's memory

The mood was light and upbeat as students, faculty and family members gathered in the main lobby of Mary Markley Residence Hall for the dedication of the Arati Sharangpani Lounge. Smiles and bright faces filled the room in spite of the tragic event that brought this group together - the death of a University student.

Artemisia celebrates women

Prohibited from entering the Michigan Union, which at that time was a clubhouse for male students, female University students raised the funds to build the Michigan League in 1929. In the late '50s, female students won full access to the Union, and 40 years later, both men and women gathered in the League to participate in an open forum on issues affecting women.

Day unites Korean Americans

Roberts to give annual speech

A decorated journalist and current University of Maryland journalism Prof. Eugene Roberts is scheduled to speak in the Rackham Amphitheater about college freedoms at 4 p.m. today. The former editor of both the New York Times and Philadelphia Inquirer was chosen to give this year's "Academic Freedom Lecture." The annual lecture honors three University professors who were suspended during the McCarthy era for alleged involvement with the Communist party

College of Pharmacy to approve new dean

After two years and two searches, the College of Pharmacy will finally have a new dean, if its selection is approved by the University Board of Regents at this week's meeting. George Kenyon, dean of the College of Pharmacy at the University of California at San Francisco, was selected this past Thursday to lead the college.

LSA-SG candidates try to be different

Amidst the fanfare surrounding the Michigan Student Assembly elections, candidates for the LSA Student Government are trying to distinguish themselves and their organization. Within the past year, LSA-SG has planned many projects, and candidates say they are anxious to continue the work the government has started.

'U' students finish 'Final Cut'

With a $5,000 budget, fake blood and a vision of terror, five University student filmmakers completed one month of exhaustive production on a horror film yesterday. Students in a film and video class decided to turn an assignment for a 3-10 minute movie into "Final Cut" - a 30-minute film.
