Disarming 'Beauty' proves dangerously seductive
I'll admit it. I'm a sucker for a period piece. For some reason, the flowing, flowery dresses, the starched velvet vests, and the constraining collars turn me on. The sight of silk tights and curvaceous corsets will invariably lead me to wondrous delight.
'Palace' hits gamer jackpot: Caesar's Palace
FYI: 'Brown' bows out
There was a jumble of emotions at the filming of the last half-hour of the once-formidable "Murphy Brown" - and an unintended sadness to its final lines.
After 10 seasons, 18 Emmys and 245 episodes, the CBS series that intermingled laughter with serious, smart story lines - and was, at its 1992 ratings peak, the talk of the nation and more than a footnote to a presidential campaign - is coming to a close.
Films snubbed by Oscar, but always remembered
As Kasi Lemmons watched the Academy Award nomination ceremony on television, the young filmmaker must have thrown up her hands up in disgust.
While "Titanic" was busy racking up a record-tying 14 nominations, her debut directorial effort, "Eve's Bayou" - despite excellent reviews (Roger Ebert named it as his best film of 1997) and modest box office success - was overlooked in every category.
Wheels make music go round
Confirming that numerous Michigan bands have the talent and the potential to reach greatness, 19 Wheels is well on its way. But before it gets there, the band will make an anticipated stop at the Blind Pig tomorrow night.
19 Wheels' sound, which is reminiscent of the trinity of Uncle Tupelo, Wilco and Sun Volt isn't just twang rock. 19 Wheels brings back "real" rock, with strong but melodic songs, all of which feature comforting and reflective lyrics. Chris Johnston's gruff vocals harkens back to Bruce Springsteen in his glory days.
New York City Opera presents a 'Daughter' worth waiting for
Good things are worth waiting for. In the case of this weekend's performance of Donizetti's comic opera "Daughter of the Regiment" by the New York City Opera National Company, the audience wound up waiting through the entire first act.
DeLillo scans oddities of heart in 'Underworld'
Aside from protagonist Nick Shay's comic Mafioso impression ("Dis scumbag? Fugetaboutit!") there are no gangsters in "Underworld."
Fox's 'Others' makes significant replacement
Ever wonder what your life is going to be like five years from now? Are you afraid of drifting aimlessly through life after graduation? Of being stuck in a corporate job that goes against your principles? Of walking in on your two best friends doing the horizontal mambo on your futon? You can stop worrying now, because Fox, the network that cares, has a show that worries for you.
'Titanic' sails into new record
LOS ANGELES (AP) - It might have been his first time - or her fifth - but on Saturday, a moviegoer somewhere in the United States or Canada bought a ticket that pushed ''Titanic'' past ''Star Wars'' to become the top domestic money-earner of all time.
