Practice makes Yost a kinder, gentler place

Yost Ice Arena is best known for the roaring taunts of the Michigan crowd during game time. It's best known for the people, packed shoulder to shoulder, elbow to elbow, rising to their feet to cheer the Wolverines on to their next goal or mock the opposing goalie into befuddled submission.

Sullivan named athlete of the year

What more can you ask of track "god" Kevin Sullivan? He has broken almost every Big Ten record, won almost every race he has ever competed in, and yesterday, he was named the 1998 indoor track athlete of the year by the U.S. Track and Field Coaches Association.

Reid forgotten in stretch run

After Sunday's loss to UCLA, the Michigan basketball lockerroom, as expected, was solemn. Some players dressed, others sat around, and in the bowels of the Georgia Dome, most pondered the worst three-point defeat of their basketball careers. While none of the Michigan players were pleased with the scenario, all of them answered the media's questions in a calm and polite manner.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Coach Kelvin Sampson says he's happy at Oklahoma but will listen to what Virginia and Michigan athletic officials have to say. Why can't women's hoops get respect?

The Nykesha Sales debacle was the biggest travesty in sports history. The NCAA's handling of the Alabama-UCLA game shows everything that is wrong with women's college basketball.

'M' swimmers seek revenge against Gophers at nationals

Don't ask Michigan swimmer Tom Malchow about the Big Ten Championships anymore. They're over and done with. The Wolverines finished a disappointing second to conference rival Minnesota just before spring break, in what many Gopher fans are calling an historic event. Minnesota ran away with the cake at the Big Ten Championships, primarily because of team depth.

Wrestling seniors on the way out

Nearing the end of the wrestling season, it is time for the Wolverines to realize that next year's team is going to look a lot different than the team that finished fourth in the Big Ten this season. The Wolverines will be graduating four All-Americans in Brandon Howe, Bill Lacure, Jeff Catrabone and Airron Richardson. The first three have been four-year starters and will compete in the NCAA Tournament this weekend in Cleveland. For Catrabone and Richardson, this is their fourth trip to NCAAs in as many years.

(AP) - Dan Langhi scored a career-high 19 points off the bench as Vanderbilt notched its first 20-win season in four years with a 72-68 victory over Wake Forest in the second round of the NIT last night. Take a look around the Michigan women's track team as it heads into the outdoor season this week. You might see some fresh faces.
