This time of year, some things aren't as inevitable as they normally would seem. Spring doesn't always bring warm weather. Billy Crystal won't always host the Oscars.
But as long as the men's swimming NCAA Championships are on the horizon, you can bet Stanford is in the hunt. Stanford won the Championships last year and appears on the threshold of yet another one. The Cardinal carries the No. 1 national ranking into the season's final meet, which begins today in Auburn, Ala.
On to Auburn: Wolverines ready for 'cocky' Stanford
It's NCAA time.
And yes, Stanford has a good chance at winning it all. But the Stanford swimmers at the NCAA Championships will probably try to steal a glimpse of their classmates' basketball game between races.
Lime and coconut? Don't ask Michigan
The record will show that the Michigan women's tennis team lost to Notre Dame last night. It will list the score as 5-4 in favor of the Irish. The score will lead one to believe that the match was close.
How close, however, cannot be reflected by the record.

Traylor calls press conference
Last spring, the Detroit media swarmed Murray-Wright High School, anticipating a "big announcement." But the only big thing at the Detroit high school on that day was a void, as the expected guest of honor - Robert Traylor - cancelled the gathering just hours before it was to begin.
When Matt Herr gets to Yost Ice Arena tomorrow afternoon before his game against Princeton, the senior will be reminded why he chose to come to Michigan.
When the puck drops at 8:30 p.m., and Herr hears the crowd harass the Tigers, the Alpine, N.J.-native will know why he dons the maize and blue with such pride.
Herr, Halpern to meet again
Michigan baseball coach Geoff Zahn was worried about his team being rusty, and with good reason. The Wolverines' past five games were cancelled due to weather, leaving the team with a dangerous idle stretch preceding the beginning of the conference season.
'M' baseball cruises, 14-6
Pitchers simply don't like it when a hitter gets a bat on their pitch. When they see the ball leap off an opposing hitter's bat, they get edgy. And they don't exhale until the batter heads back to the dugout.
But Marie Barda's not just any pitcher, and when she and the rest of the Michigan softball team head to Bloomington this weekend, she won't be completely upset if the Hoosiers make contact with her pitches. In fact, she'd welcome the chance to make some plays of her own in the field.
Barda: Strikeouts are nice, but not exactly 'exciting' in the field
For the Michigan women's track team tomorrow, it'll be like a family reunion.
After the sprint squad went to Jamaica last weekend, both the sprinters and the distance runners will meet and compete in the same place this time. The Wolverines, as a whole team, will head down to Tempe, Ariz., for the Arizona State Castillo Invitational.
Women's track will run, sun in Arizona
This weekend, while most students will be firmly entrenched in their normal weekend routines, the Michigan men's track and field team will fly off to sunny Tempe, Ariz., for the Arizona State Castillo Invitational, which will be held on Saturday.

Same old spring story for men's golf team ... lousy weather
After a couple weeks of battling the weather in Ann Arbor, the Michigan men's golf team heads to Dallas this weekend to compete in the Tanglewood Invitational.
One concern for the Wolverines is that the chilly, rainy weather in Michigan recently has made it difficult to practice outdoors.
The Michigan men's tennis team has not given up a team point in Big Ten play this year. In fact, the Wolverines have not even lost a set in singles play.
But then again, they have only played one Big Ten match. Their second is Sunday against Indiana in Bloomington.
Yet to be tested in Big Ten play, Michigan men's tennis visits Indiana
'M' women's golf struggles in Florida
When the Michigan women's golf team competed in the River Wilderness Invitational in Sarasota, Fla., at least the Wolverines could say it was warm.
"We're looking forward to practicing outside now that the weather permits," Michigan coach Kathy Teichert said. Judging from the Wolverines' poor showings on Monday and Tuesday, they're in need of a little practice.
Wolverines vault into East Lansing in final chance to improve regional score
After finishing behind Michigan State two weeks in a row, the Michigan men's gymnastics team will travel to East Lansing for a second rematch with the No. 6 Spartans on Saturday at Jenison Fieldhouse.
This will be Michigan's final chance to better its three-score regional qualifying average before the NCAA East Regional takes place in Massachusetts on April 4. Michigan is currently on the regional bubble, occupying the sixth and final slot in the East.
