Before coming to Michigan as a student, I never followed college hockey closely. Outside of the Great Lakes Invitational Tournament and the occasional game at Joe Louis Arena, college hockey received almost no coverage from the local media, and there was almost never a game on television.
Excitement of college hockey rivals that of any other sport
In life, a way to reconcile one's mistakes is through confession. In hockey, the most powerful savior is a good goaltender. He is the ultimate equalizer on the ice - the player who can absolve his teammate's sins with a kick of his leg or a swipe of his stick.
Alban key to Michigan State's national title hopes
Twenty-six years. It's been that long since a team won back-to-back national titles. Boston University did it in 1971 and 1972.
Last season, Michigan was the heavy favorite to repeat after winning 33 games heading into NCAA Tournament play. The task proved to be too difficult, and the Wolverines were defeated by the Terriers in the final four.

Before this season, Bill Muckalt had a decision to make. Growing up in British Columbia, Muckalt had always dreamed of playing in the NHL, and after his junior year, the Vancouver Canucks wanted Muckalt to leave school early to play pro hockey.

Who knows what was going through Hobey Baker's mind while plummeting toward the Earth in his Spad No. 7 plane in 1918?
F. Scott Fitzgerald probably would have known. After all, Fitzgerald - Baker's classmate at Princeton - used Baker as at least one of his characters in at least one of his books, "This Side of Paradise." Allenby, a character in "Paradise," marched at the head of his platoon, "the football captain, slim and defiant, as if aware that this year the hopes of the college rested on him, that his hundred-and-sixty pounds were expected to dodge to victory through the heavy blue and crimson lines.
Beyond the trophy
It was selection Sunday. The Michigan hockey team was huddled around a television, waiting to find out its fate for the NCAA Tournament. Minutes passed, and finally the Wolverines (30-11-1) found themselves slotted in the West Regional at Yost, to face .

Hugo Boisvert didn't exactly know what to expect when he arrived on Ohio State's campus in Columbus as a freshman in 1996. Columbus was a long way from his hometown of St. Eustache, Quebec.
Boisvert, who speaks French as his first language, had to adapt - not only to a new home, but to a new language as well. The future was very uncertain, but it was all worth it for Boisvert.
Expect the unexpected from Buckeyes, Boisvert
One of the biggest surprises in the NCAA West Region is the Yale Bulldogs. Picked to finish 10th in the 12-team East Coast Athletic Conference in the preseason ECAC coaches poll, the No. 10 Bulldogs shocked observers by winning their first-ever ECAC regular season title edging second-place Clarkson by only a single point.

For the Princeton hockey team, the past few weeks have been a test of endurance. After a mediocre regular season in which it finished 13-9-7 - with a 7-9-6 record in the ECAC - the Tigers (18-10-7) needed to play themselves into the NCAA Tournament by winning their conference tournament championship.
In first-ever NCAA berth, Tigers' biggest foe is fatigue
Several days ago, University staff members embedded "NCAA" into the ice at Yost Ice Arena, prepped the press box for the additional media that will be on hand for the NCAA West Regional and assembled temporary lockerrooms to accommodate every team competing in the tournament.
Renovations allowed Yost to be a regional host
Hockey rinks, intrinsically, are nothing special, nothing unique. Pretty much every college hockey program has one. They're big. They're small. Lots of them are old and falling apart. Some of them are new and pristine, almost sterile.
Among many, Yost stands out as a unique ice arena: Yost atmosphere sparked by fans, mix of the classic and modern
