Harrison accepts Hartford presidency
After leaving an indelible mark on the University through nine years of service as Vice President for University relations, Walt Harrison is bidding farewell to the University of Michigan and heading to the University of Hartford, where he will act as its fifth president.

Students guaranteed full-season tickets
Cheers and marshmallows will continue to spring forth from the Northwest corner of the Michigan Stadium this upcoming football season.
On April 22, the Athletic Department approved recommendations from the Task Force on Ticket Policy/Stadium Student Seating, which guarantee all students will receive full-season tickets, after complaints last fall over split-season tickets for incoming first-year students.

Community organizes to counter KKK rally
In response to a Ku Klux Klan rally planned for 1 p.m. Saturday in front of the Ann Arbor City Hall, community members and University students are organizing demonstrations and protests to counter the Klan's racist message.
Two years ago, the KKK held a rally in Ann Arbor and was met by violent opposition from anti-Klan protesters. Members of the community "threw rocks, lugnuts and bottles at both officers and Klan members," said Larry Jarue, deputy chief of the Ann Arbor Police Department.

That's what an unidentified person shouted while running in the annual Naked Mile, which brought more than 10,000 students and spectators to the streets of Ann Arbor on April 21.
Satcher addresses Public Health grads
Newly appointed United States Surgeon General David Satcher addressed 275 School of Public Health graduates at their commencement Friday evening in a packed Rackham Auditorium.
Satcher was sworn in as both the U.S. Surgeon General and the Assistant Secretary for Health on February 13, 1998.
Jesse Jackson asserts importance of affirmative action programs
At a conference held at Ypsilanti's Marriott Hotel on April 26, Rev. Jesse Jackson said affirmative action is a positive program and a "majority issue" - despite protests supporting and lawsuits challenging the University's admissions policies.
Student to be tried for sexual misconduct
Under a ruling handed down by Washtenaw County District Court Judge John Collins at an April 22 preliminary hearing, LSA first-year student Steve Nadel will be tried on two counts of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct.
The charges stem from an incident that allegedly took place in a South Quad Residence Hall room on Feb. 13. The court found that the prosecution showed "probable cause" for a trial.
