Racist slurs flooded Ann Arbor City Hall Saturday afternoon as 37 Ku Klux Klan members held a rally, protected from violent projectile-wielding protesters by fences and barricades. Demonstrators were hit with tear gas and pepper spray while trying to reach the Klan.

'U' chef serves it up in contest semi-finals

Some students may feel dining hall chefs are random passersby, picked only for their ability to look cool in funny white hats. But one University chef is proving he's no doughboy. Far from a random passerby, East Quad's Grade-A chef is currently in the running for a spot in the Bocus d'Or, an acclaimed international cooking competition.

Legislation proposes mental, physical health care equality

State Rep. Liz Brater (D-Ann Arbor) presented parity legislation last Tuesday that would require insurance companies to cover mental health care and physical health care equally. Ovide Pomerleau, a researcher at the Nicotine Research Laboratory at the University Medical School, found heavy smokers were much more likely than non-smokers to say they experienced pleasurable effects the first time they smoked, leading them to believe that some people are predisposed to be smokers.

Rally gives community a peaceful alternative

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." In the spirit of these words from Martin Luther King Jr., nearly 600 University students and Washtenaw County community members gathered at Wheeler Park on Saturday to promote diversity by taking a peaceful stand against the Ku Klux Klan.
