"Cats," the longest running show in Broadway history, will air tonight on PBS. Andrew Lloyd Webber's spectacular musical version of T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" was recently filmed at London's Adelphi Theater. The performance will be presented as part of PBS' Great Performances series.

Based on Stephen King's novella, this emotionally disturbing film serves little purpose other than to present a depressing view of the unavoidable existence of evil that is passed down from one generation to the next.
