Flashing gold jewelry and a smile, Robert Traylor sat on the bench, utterly useless to his former team. Not that he was needed. The former Michigan center sat and watched as Josh Asselin played Traylor's old role perfectly.

'M' to host 1st round of NCAAs: Soccer faces Xavier tomorrow

The Michigan soccer team's semi-final loss in the Big Ten tournament on Saturday may have knocked the team down. But as the squad was informed late last evening, the setback did not knock it out. The Wolverines will resume post-season play on Wednesday when they host first round NCAA tournament foe Xavier at the Michigan Soccer Field.

Forget Dayne and Gibson -kicking game troubles Carr

Michigan coach Lloyd Carr entered yesterday's press conference in a bad mood. Of course, that doesn't stray from the norm too much - Carr does not exactly love the press. Following a behemoth victory last Saturday against Penn State, however, you would think that Carr would be a little more excited than usual.

Wisconsin quarterback ticketed for altercation

MADISON (AP) - The last thing the eighth-ranked, unbeaten Badgers needed with defending national champion Michigan on tap and a Rose Bowl berth at stake was a dreaded distraction. But senior quarterback Mike Samuel was cited for battery after a fracas outside a tavern Saturday night after the Badgers' 26-7 victory over Minnesota. It was his third brush with the law and second this year.

Wolverines hope to pay back Wisconsin at districts

A cross country race is based on a very simple concept. All the runners start at the same place, run the same course and the first one to the finish line wins. But when you bring in 10 to 15 teams, each with about 10 runners and put them all on the same course, things can get a little chaotic.

Michigan volleyball crowds dwindle

One of the greatest matches in Michigan volleyball history was played last Wednesday in front of a record 1,732 fans. Coming back from being down two games to zero, the Wolverines tied the match at two games apiece in front of a raucous Michigan State crowd in Jenison Fieldhouse.
