Titans come to Crisler for more than an in-state rivalry

Detroit Mercy has a lot more in common with the Michigan women's basketball team than simply hailing from the same state. Nikita Lowry, the Titans' head coach, was an assistant for Michigan until 1993, and she's not the only one to hold positions at both schools. Michigan assistant coaches Yvette Harris and Yulanda Wimbash both hold ties to the competition.

Wouldn't it be nice if college football went by the numbers?

Football and sports in general are not very conducive to theories. That is to say that sports is not a clear-cut science. You can't conclude that if Team A plays up to 75 percent of its potential and Team B plays 89 percent of its potential, then Team B will win.

'M' cross country wavering

"You're only as good as your last game" is one of the most frequently used phrases in sports. But in the case of the Michigan women's cross country team, the cliché goes a long way toward explaining the importance the Wolverines have placed on the NCAA Championships next Monday in Lawrence, Kan.

Defense takes the offensive against opponents

The objective of a hockey defenseman is normally to halt the other team's offense. But so far this season, the Michigan defense has lit up the red light more than usual.
